TECHNOLOGIES
BlackChili - the essence of this compound is the balance between grip, rolling efficiency and durability. The grippier the rubber compound, the faster it wears and the lower the rolling efficiency. This is where the dilemma arises - how to improve one property without harming the others. Tires with the BlackChili compound differ depending on the cycling discipline they are used for. How does it work? When creating BlackChili tires, we mix a special synthetic rubber with proven natural rubber to obtain high-quality tread compounds. We then add soot particles to these compounds, which in turn are optimized to bring out the shape and surface properties of the tire. This complex compound technology is so delicate that tires with the BlackChili compound are made only at the Continental factory in Korbach, Germany.
Suitable for electric bikes. When developing our electric bike tires, we draw on more than 100 years of experience gained in producing moped and motorcycle tires. All Continental city/touring tires are designed to ride at a standard speed of at least 25 km/h. Tires marked E-50 are also certified for use with S-pedelecs. The high-quality construction ensures strong protection against punctures without increasing rolling resistance and protects against premature wear.
Thanks to ProTection technology, Continental tires perfectly combine good rolling, grip and puncture protection. This is achieved by using four layers under the tread and three on the sidewalls. The entire tire gains greater resilience and becomes less vulnerable.
Tubeless Ready - the tires can be used with or without inner tubes, because the tire and rim are designed to fit tightly against each other. An additional universal puncture-protection layer developed specifically for mountain biking makes Continental tires especially resistant to damage and to the penetration of foreign objects. For maximum effect, we combine ProTection with the BlackChili compound. The result: versatile, lightweight and attractive tires. All tires with this technology can be adapted to a tubeless system.
