The frame is sturdy, with geometry similar to a mountain bike, but it shapes a more upright riding position than a mountain bike - the hands are less loaded and visibility is better. It is designed for longer journeys and is often adapted for mounting various accessories such as mudguards and racks.
The material is aluminium, the most widespread. It is lighter than steel and stronger than carbon fibre, and is used in the production of various types of bicycles. It offers the best price-to-weight ratio.
Plastic mudguards are often fitted to keep the overall weight of the bike to a minimum and to allow an additional rack to be added for carrying items.
