Sunglasses are divided into categories based on light transmission. All Zeiss lenses protect the eyes from UVA and UVB radiation up to 400 nm wavelengths. The VLT value indicates how much light passes through the lenses.
Category 3
Transmits 8-18% of light. Excellent in bright sunlight. Colours are reproduced naturally. Suitable for e.g. road, street and mountain biking, mountains, snow conditions and at sea.
Category 2
Transmits 18-43% of light. All-purpose lenses for sunny and changing weather. Eliminates blue and violet light. Improves depth perception and contrast and works very well in fast-paced sports and situations where you need to judge distances. Suitable for e.g. road and mountain biking, skiing and golf.
Category 1
Transmits 43-80% of light. Lenses for cloudy or rainy days. Excellent in autumn and winter when there is little light, but it comes from a disturbing angle. They protect the eyes and help you see variations in terrain as well as contrasts of light and shadow that are invisible to the naked eye.
