6V and 12V Battery Charger
We present a charger with microprocessor control that can be used with most types of vehicles equipped with a wet, gel, or AGM lead-acid battery. The charger is suitable for 6 V and 12 V batteries.
This battery charger features short-circuit and overvoltage protection, ensuring a safe charging process. One of its greatest advantages is the LCD display, which is easy to operate thanks to the intuitive microprocessor control.
The charging process in 10 phases
To give a full picture and understanding of how the charger works, we describe its individual charging phases. There are as many as 10 of them.
Phase 1 - Initialization - At this stage the battery condition is checked to determine the appropriate charging mode. If the battery is heavily discharged, the device switches to regenerative charging mode.
Phase 2 - Low-current charging - In this phase the battery is warmed up and prepared for constant-current charging.
Phase 3-6 - Constant-current charging - Charging at maximum current to about 85% of the battery capacity.
Phase 7 - Constant-voltage charging - Charging to about 95% of capacity with a gradual reduction of the current. This charging phase is intended to extend the battery's service life.
Phase 8 - Float charging - Completion of the entire charging cycle. At this stage the battery reaches its maximum possible capacity.
Phase 9 - Analysis - At this charging stage the battery is tested for its ability to hold its capacity. At the final step of this stage, a desulphation process may begin for batteries in poorer condition.
Phase 10 - Maintenance - In the last step the battery status is monitored. If the voltage drops below the threshold value, the charger automatically starts working.
2 modes for used batteries
Regeneration mode - the process of regenerating heavily discharged or desulphated batteries through pulse charging at low current. This mode applies to restorative charging. It can be activated manually or automatically (when the battery is deeply discharged).
Desulphation mode - recovering the capacity of sulphated batteries through pulse charging at increased voltage that breaks up the sulphur crystals deposited on the electrodes. This mode applies to restorative charging. Desulphation mode is activated automatically after the "Analysis" mode when the battery does not hold a charge.
