More about LiFePO4 battery technology: LiFePO4, or lithium iron phosphate battery (also known as LFP), uses lithium iron phosphate as the cathode material. It offers significant benefits to the user: an LFP battery withstands thousands of charge-discharge cycles, giving the longest life cycle of any battery; it is considerably safer than traditional lithium battery technologies (such as the common LiCoO2, which uses other cathode materials); it can be fast-charged and discharged more quickly; and its self-discharge is only about 3% per month. The battery is also lighter than a traditional lithium-ion battery. Of all lithium batteries, it best retains its performance in hot conditions. Energy density is around 100 Wh/kg.
The cell chemistry is similar to that used in the latest hybrid and electric cars, power tools, medical instruments and military equipment. In a flashlight, the LFP battery outperforms every other battery option currently on the market in active professional use. Although it is the most expensive battery technology to purchase, its long service life makes it by far the most cost-effective power source for the user over time.
