SHIMANO Deore XT CS-M8100 | 12-speed cassette (10-45T)
- Shimano follows this example and equips its 12-speed XT M8100 group as well. Unlike its competitors, the Japanese brand lets riders choose whether they want maximum cassette range (10-51T) or a cassette with smaller cadence jumps between shifts (10-45T). The latter option is especially suited to XC and marathon racers who can save their energy by pedalling within an optimal cadence range.
- Smooth and precise shifting has always been the hallmark of Shimano cassettes. In the latest-generation Hyperglide cassettes, the sprockets are arranged so that the chain runs exceptionally smoothly and with little vibration, particularly when shifting to a larger sprocket. With the XT M8100 cassette, Shimano introduces Hyperglide+. Thanks to this technology, shifts are now just as smooth when moving into a larger gear and are 1/3 faster compared to the CS-M8000 cassette.
- In developing this cassette, Shimano relied on a combination of steel and aluminium for the sprockets. The ten small sprockets, which wrap the chain the least and bear the greatest load, are made of steel, while the two large sprockets are made of aluminium. This load-dependent use of materials results in even cassette wear and also extends the service life of the chain. The cassette is held in place by an aluminium lockring.
