As befits a versatile knife for everyday use, the Kershaw Covalent uses the most versatile blade profile possible - in this case a drop point that provides excellent cutting qualities. The blade is made of high-carbon D2 steel combining exceptionally high dulling resistance with good stainless steel. However, in order to support its resistance to corrosion, the entire surface has been coated with BlackWash coating to protect against scratches and corrosion. Mounting the blade on a bearing system noticeably increases the speed and smoothness of the opening. Meanwhile, the sandblasted finish masks scratches and gives the knife a modern feel.

A textured flipper has been provided for opening the knife, which allows comfortable operation with any hand. After opening, the head is secured by a new solution in Kershaw's offer - the DuraLock lock. This system, based on an omega spring, guarantees extremely effective security and the possibility of convenient release on both sides. Access to the lock is located in a place comfortable for thumb operation. The knife's grip has received facings of durable fiberglass-reinforced nylon covered with a distinct texturing. The extra-deep carry clip used allows the knife to be carried as discreetly as possible below the pocket line.
